Scope and topics
Intracortical interfaces hold immense potential to revolutionize the way we understand and interact with the brain, offering groundbreaking solutions for neurological conditions and enhancing human-machine interactions.
The main goal of The Brain and The Chip 2024 meeting is to provide an all-inclusive forum for extended and focused discussions among leaders in the development of intracortical neural interfaces. We aim to bring together renowned researchers, clinicians and experts in various fields—neural engineering, intracortical brain-computer interfaces, microelectronics, artificial vision, neurosurgery, neurology, materials science, neural-inspired AI, ethics, etc.—to foster collaborations, exchange knowledge, and explore advancements in intracortical interfaces.
This meeting is designed to engage the community, highlighting the potential of these technologies to restore vision in blind patients, recover lost sensory and motor abilities in patients with tetraplegia, or decode attempted speech in people with paralysis.
The Brain and The Chip 2024 aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, address comprehensive clinical needs, share the latest research and innovations, and develop strategies to overcome the key challenges in this field. We are committed to supporting the next generation of researchers. To this end, we will make every effort to cover coach travel and housing expenses for a limited number of students.

Program
As in The Brain and The Chip 2022 meeting:
- Each program presentation will consist of a 20-minute presentation followed by a 10-minute challenge period. We will carefully time each presentation so that the last presentation of the day will start on time and receive exactly the same opportunity as the first in the morning.
- Abstract and a photograph of each research panel presenter will be provided in a program to all attendees.
- Posters are eagerly sought.

Contributions & Registration
Abstract submission
The Brain and The Chip 2024 planning committee seeks high quality abstracts describing original, where possible unpublished, research results.
- An abstract must be submitted with the intention that, if accepted, it will be presented by the First Author as a 20-minute Platform Presentation or as a Poster.
- Abstract must be approved by all co-authors.
- Abstracts should be written in a structured format, clearly outlining the background/introduction, methods, results, and conclusions of the research.
- There is a maximum of 2,500 total characters that includes all characters and spaces in the abstract’s title, abstract body and image captions (maximum of 2 images).
- All financial relationships with commercial interests relevant to the research reported in the abstract must be disclosed.
- Registration is not required to submit an abstract.
- There is no limit on the number of abstracts that can be co-authored by an individual.
Poster guidelines
The image area of the poster board is a maximum of 84 cm wide x 119 cm high (33” x 47”). Materials, including the title, may not extend beyond the image area.
- Keep materials clear and concise.
- Include complete disclosures relevant to the abstract’s subject matter.
- Produce legible material from a distance of at least three feet.
- Use large print and shade or color block letters when possible.
- For legibility, a minimum font size of 28 points and a maximum of 600 words are recommended.
- Avoid using blue-green and magenta-violet, which appear gray to your red-green color-blind colleagues.
- Avoid using red or green – up to 5% of the population is red-green color blind.
- Use a layout for your poster that follows the main headings used in your abstract, i.e., Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusion; presented in a logical and clear sequence.
- Explanations for each graph, picture, and table.
Print a high-resolution copy of your poster to present onsite (size must not exceed the maximum poster sizes listed above).
Complimentary lodging
Students
This initiative aims to provide them with the opportunity to participate in The Brain and The Chip 2024, gain valuable insights, and contribute to the discussions.
To be eligible for consideration, students must meet the following requirements:
- Enrollment Status: Applicants must be currently enrolled as full-time students at an accredited institution.
- Letter of Recommendation: A letter of recommendation from a faculty member or academic advisor is required. This letter should attest to the student’s academic achievements and potential contribution to The Brain and The Chip 2024 International Congress.
- Motivation Letter: Applicants must provide a motivation letter explaining their interest in attending The Brain and The Chip 2024 International Congress, how it relates to their academic and professional goals, and the expected benefits of participation.
- Financial Need Statement: A brief statement outlining the applicant’s financial need and how the fellowship would assist in covering travel and housing expenses.
- CV/Resume: A current CV or resume highlighting the applicant’s academic background, research experience, and any relevant publications or projects.

Venue
Elche
You are officially welcome to the luminous, bimillenary city of Elche. It is the second most populated city in the province of Alicante and the third in the Valencian Community.
Elche is also known as the «Ciudad de la Dama». In 1897 this Iberian sculpture was found in the archaeological site of La Alcudia. This bust represents a lady, richly dressed, whose face shows perfect features, made in limestone between the 5th and 4th centuries BC.
Elche is the only city that has three World Heritage Sites: El Palmeral, El Misteri d’Elx and the Puçol School Museum.
The Palmeral is a unique space with more than 200,000 specimens, which in 2000 was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Mystery of Elche is a cultural treasure of the people of Elche and one of the most precious jewels of Valencian heritage, as evidenced by its declaration as a National Monument in 1931, and its inclusion, in 2001, in the first Proclamation of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
The School Museum of Pusol was born in 1969 as an activity linked to the Pedagogical Project «The School and its Environment». The aim was to preserve the memory of the country trades that were disappearing. The involvement of the community, especially the agricultural districts of Elche, made this activity become an outstanding museum project where more than 70,000 inventoried pieces allow us to immerse ourselves in the past.
In 2009, UNESCO inscribed the Center for Traditional Culture School Museum of Pusol in the Register of Good Practices for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, becoming since then the Third World Heritage Site of Elche.
University Miguel Hernandez
The Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) is a public university that continues its journey with enthusiasm and renewed energy, with the determined purpose of offering teaching and research of the highest quality.
The Generalitat Valenciana created this University in 1996, which provided for the segregation of several centers and teachings of both the University of Alicante (its Faculty of Medicine, Department of Statistics and Institute of Neurosciences) and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Agricultural Engineering and three specialties of Agricultural Engineering), for their reattachment to the newly founded University.
The Miguel Hernández University has 7 faculties: Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Experimental Sciences, Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences of Elche, Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences of Orihuela, Faculty of Social and Health, Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Medicine; and 2 schools: Higher Polytechnic School of Elche and Higher Polytechnic School of Orihuela.
Its goals are those of the university spirit; to educate students from a plural and tolerant way of thinking, as well as trying to collaborate in solving the problems that affect society.
